Thirty-three members enjoyed a wonderful winter’s day with blue skies and no wind at the historic Nathan Homestead in Manurewa attending the Annual General Meeting on June 9th.
The unique history of this Homestead didn’t just come alive through the original features and interior in the Grand Foyer, which the club hired for the event, but especially through Frank Parker’s wonderful story of his car he’s owned for 60 years: a Minerva, that originally belonged to the Lady of the House. Frank was excited to attend the AGM this year knowing that it would give him the chance to see the inside of the Homestead where his beloved car resided for such a long time. A fantastic story to share with everyone attending the AGM.
After an entertaining and cheerful meeting, which the President led in the former dining room of the Homestead, the group moved on to a lovely afternoon tea and drinks. Hungry tummies enjoyed tasty mini pies, sliders and homemade scones with jam as well as decadent chocolate brownies that couldn’t have tasted any better, especially not when combined with a glass of Marlborough Pinot Noir or a nicely chilled Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc.
The group had been given permission to arrive up the main drive and then access to the northern terrace of the property, which allowed a nice line-up of members’ cars in front of the backdrop of the homestead. This led to some wonderful images of the cars sparkling in the afternoon sun. The courteous, helpful and friendly staff at the Homestead and the Butler’s Pantry café, who provided the catering at the event, were responsible for the relaxed atmosphere, which meant hardly anyone left early.
The group finally dispersed around 4pm to enjoy their drive back home. A day with friends and Mercedes enthusiasts well spent.
