This story is a tale of learning. Graeme Collie had a good idea that we should have a virtual Oktoberfest via a Zoom meeting. This was to stimulate club member activity as event after event has been cancelled due to Covid restrictions.
The only problem was Graeme’s many, many talents do not include hosting Zoom meetings. Here lies the rub. Me, being only slightly more computer literate at Zoom, offered to help and before long I was the “expert” host. You know what the definition of an “expert” is: a person brought in at the last possible moment to share the blame. The other definition of expert: is x being an unknown quantity and a spurt being a drip under pressure. That’s me!
Anyways, we had several dummy runs to get ready for the big Friday event.
We had 12 odd members tune in, sorry Zoom in, for our inaugural Zoom members get together. As it was an Oktoberfest theme, you were welcome to enjoy your favourite tipple in the Zoomsphere.
Graeme read an article about his SSK, which was very interesting and then it was open forum. The questions raised and topics covered were varied, such as: places of interest in lockdown that might lead to new destinations for future club rallies; technical questions and problems experienced with member’s cars that needed input for solutions and members were keen to assist in providing guidance and general gute Zeiten (good times).
From my perspective, it was an enjoyable way to end the week, with much joviality and interesting conversations. Got to see old friends and meet some new members.
We will revisit a Zoom meeting again later in the month when we have arranged a guest speaker, so stay tuned.
