Thursday 2nd of January was a mixed up day weather wise for our run to Coromandel, but at least the forecast was for clearing weather.

We met up rather early once again at our favourite place for southern direction runs, the BP Service Centre Drury on SH1, and the clouds were looking rather ominous. We could see rain falling in patches round and about, but that didn’t put us off. No-one seemed willing to put tops down on their cars. So after a pleasant catch-up we jumped in our Mercs, revved the engines and we were on our way travelling down the main highways towards Thames.

As we headed further south and east, the weather greatly improved and blues skies with plenty of warm sunshine brightened the countryside and it felt like summer had arrived in bucket loads.

After about an hour, we arrived once again at the Tastebud cafe where we met with a few Midland Club members for morning tea. Tastebud Cafe is delightful with many very tempting fresh cakes, slices, savouries, coffee or cooked breakfasts, and it has a lovely outdoor seating area beside the garden centre and is next to a paddock with horses grazing. We stayed there for about an hour.

After morning tea, the Mercs were off again, this time without any traffic delays, so it was a nice leisurely run up to Coromandel.

When we arrived at the Fair and parked our cars, we all split up to wander around and look at all the wares for sale. The fair was well attended with huge crowds of people going in all directions and occasionally we would bump into other club members, but I think most of us were more interested in filling our bellies with the food on offer rather than the wares for sale. At least that’s how I felt.

So it was another enjoyable day driving our Mercs, passing through rolling green pastures, with the sun out and a nice breeze, in friendly company at the Keltic Fair.

Cheers until next time.
