It was a grey overcast morning as Auckland Merc Club members gathered in the McDonalds carpark in Greenlane at 10.30am, where we met up with members of the MR2 Club. Several of our members were hoping to put the tops down on their cars but there were too many rain showers hanging around, so they stayed tightly shut.

After a 30-minute catch-up with each other and a briefing on the route we were to drive, the Mercs were on their way. We had a nice cruise, ambling our way through the ‘burbs out to West Auckland where we were heading to park up with the other car clubs and drop-off the gifts being donated to VisionWest for families struggling under hardship over the Christmas period. The generosity of everyone was amazing to see, with a very large mountain of toys, puzzles, games, skateboards, just everything that young kids would enjoy receiving as Christmas presents. So cool.

So, a nice lunch of club sandwiches, homemade cakes & biscuits and BBQ sausages on bread with sauce & mustard was put on for everyone, and it went down a treat.

While we were all eating and despite it raining almost continuously now, judging of the cars was taking place. Who had the best dressed car? Whose car was the most popular. Well, our own Cornelius Boertjens won a prize of a bucket full of car care products as one of the Best Dressed Cars with his lovely blue 2017 AMG GT S. Well done Cornelius.

After a little more chatting and ogling over car engines (a nice Audi R8 V10) and many other cars, it was time to be off and away. Many people had other social engagements to go to, now that we are moving into that busy time of year.

It was a great day out and hopefully looking forward to doing it again next year.

Cheers everyone.
