Port Waikato, naturally; and that’s where we headed on a very warm Saturday for a picnic lunch.

After meeting up at BP Drury, eight cars headed for a short trip down the motorway and then onto country roads. It’s always a delight to get into rural New Zealand with beautiful scenery including cows, sheep, fisherman, and native bush with part of the road following the river.

Apart from a couple of missed right hand turns, no names mentioned, we all arrived at the beautiful Cobourne Reserve where the Hobsons were waiting for the group.

Not sure my driving over the hump bridge on the wrong side so Daryl could get a photo was quite legal but it had to be done.

What a beautiful spot Trevor had chosen for our picnic. Lots of trees for shade, grass for the picnic blankets, and a light breeze to keep us all cool. Also perfect for Daryl to fly Buzz the Drone giving us a birds eye view.

Mark Senior from Port Waikato joined us. Always a pleasure to have a local in the group.

Even though it was not quite 12 o’clock most of us got into our picnics. After plenty of laughs, good conversation, and full stomachs we headed back to our respective homes.

Quote of the day

Russell: You drive quite well really Janine.

Me: For a girl?

Thanks Trevor for organising another fantastic day. Daryl and I both think more picnics are needed.

Ed note: Mark also gave directions to the local whitebait outlet, so there was a short detour by a small convoy before we left town.
